What is Shopmobility?

Shopmobility is a scheme to lend manual and powered wheelchairs and scooters FREE OF CHARGE.  A companion service for people who might require assistance while shopping is also available. This helps people who have limited mobility or visual impairment to shop and use other town centre facilities.

Who can use it?

Shopmobility is open to anyone who feels that getting around the Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes, Dunfermline shopping centres is difficult.

You do not have to be registered as having a disability to use the service.  You do not have to have a blue badge to use our extra wide parking facilities when you are using our equipment.

Do I have to book?

This is recommended.

A quick telephone call to Shopmobility ensures that equipment is available.

  1. Equipment can also be booked through the Dial-A-Ride Scheme. Telephone 08451 55 11 88.
  2. A volunteer companion can also be provided. However advance notice is necessary.

Is it free?

Yes!
Shopmobility facilities are available free of charge. Our parking spaces are free to customers using our equipment.  A donation box will be on hand if you would like to help with the running costs.

What happens on arrival at Shopmobility?

On arrival at the centre you will be met by a member of staff, or volunteer, who will ask you for proof of identity and to complete a form for monitoring and insurance purposes. Instruction in the use of the equipment will be provided (please pre-book). When you and the staff are confident you can handle it, off you go. At the end of your visit return the equipment to the centre - it's as simple as that.    - Please scroll down for an important message -

Customers of Fife Shopmobility should note that any powered equipment allocated to them must NEVER be driven by anyone other than themselves as a registered customer and the signatory for that equipment.  Thank you.
